Josephine is captivated by glass. Particularly in the physical transformation of glass: that a medium so brittle and delicate can become fluid, organic and sometimes unrecognisable.
A contemporary shift is underway-one that is tending towards glass - and it is Josephine’s goal to promote and expand this trend to areas where glass has not yet reached. Glass is a me dium that large audiences connect with due to its prevalence in daily life and its ability to convey powerful conceptual expression. It is this potential that spurs her passion for glass art, along with its seemingly endless possibilities and welcoming community.
Inspired by tactility, material, and process, sustainability is a burgeoning theme in Josephine’s practice, evidenced by her use of bio-based paper and organic resources. She advocates that in

an uncertain world, artists have the responsibility and privilege to create work that inspires action, awareness, and knowledge sharing. In parallel with using environmentally conscious materials, Josephine’s work focuses on themes of the body, the earth, and philosophical approaches.
Josephine has completed a BFA at the Michaelis School of Fine Arts in South Africa and a Post- Baccalaureate at the Rhode Island School of Design in the United States. She has exhibited in group shows, most notably Glass Now with the Pretoria Arts Association and Many Selves with Art School Africa, and Where Nothing Has Ever Really Happened and BioPossibilities with RISD. Josephine is currently pursuing an MFA, specialising in glass, at the Rhode Island School of Design.
